Code with purpose, in a place that knows your name

A Computer Science Degree That Serves Others.

Computer science at Goshen College prepares you for software development, data analysis, and graduate study. Here, you will compute for the good of humanity and other ecologies. In addition, you will learn in small, supportive classes where expert faculty know your name.

Hands-On Learning From Day One. From your first year, you apply what you learn. You’ll take part in hands-on internships, coding projects, and collaborative research with professors. As a result, by the time you graduate, you have the technical skills, creative confidence, and real-world experience to thrive. Whether you choose the tech industry or graduate school, you’ll be ready.

    Research from your first years

At a large university, real research and close faculty mentorship are often things you wait for, reserved for graduate students while undergraduates sit in lecture halls of a few hundred. Goshen works the other way around. The classes are small, your professors know your name, and you can be doing real, faculty-mentored research as early as your sophomore year. Programs like Maple Scholars pair you with a professor for a summer of work in emerging tech fields. You are not waiting until grad school to do meaningful work. You start while you are still here.

    What you’ll study

You build a strong foundation in software development, algorithms, systems design, and programming languages. A game development minor adds a multi-disciplinary foundation in game design, drawing, animation, and programming.  With that you can build a game from scratch, testing both your coding and your creative storytelling.

Careers for graduates span many industries. Even in the age of AI, Goshen’s human-centered, liberal arts approach prepares you to weigh the ethical and human impact of technology. Graduates work as web developers, database developers, network security engineers, software test engineers, and some go on to roles like strategic development director, auditor, and math teacher. • I chose Goshen because it has always been a little bit of a dream of mine ever since I was just a little boy. I would see the campus and know that was where I wanted to be.

    Cost and scholarships

Money decides this for many families. Here is what we can name plainly. Scholarships make up a large portion of Goshen College financial aid packages, which average almost $26,000 per student, not including work-study or loans.

Aid amounts and eligibility for international students depend on your situation, so rather than guess, talk to a real person who can give you your number. The financial aid office can walk you through the scholarships you could qualify for and what your cost would actually be.
