Sport Management at Goshen College is a four-year bachelors degree in the business and leadership of sport. You build skills across both business and communication to lead in coaching, athletic administration, facility and event management, and community recreation.

This is a program for people who want sport to be their career, not just their pastime. You’ll be in good company: about a third of Goshen undergraduates are intercollegiate athletes, so you’re surrounded by teammates who get it. The learning is hands-on from the start, with internships; student-led projects with organizations like GC Athletics, the YMCA, and local schools; and on-campus leadership in fitness programs and intramural events.
What You’ll Study

Yes, definitely. You don’t need to play a sport or be on a varsity roster to major in sport management. The program focuses on the business and leadership side of the industry: finance, marketing, event planning, facility management, communication and sport law. What matters is your interest in how sports organizations run, not whether you compete in one.
The hands-on opportunities are open to everyone, too. Every sport management student completes an internship, and you can work alongside Maple Leafs Athletics and use the same marketing and promotional tools as the college’s communication and sports information teams. An athletic background is welcome but never required — curiosity about the field and a willingness to get involved matter far more.
Yes. Sport Management is offered as both a major and a minor, so you can add it to another field, business, marketing, and communication are natural pairings, to build sport-industry skills.
